Morocco Private Tours Sahara Desert – ‎Morocco Travel

This exciting budget tour gives you a fantastic insight into the history and cultures of the Moroccan desert regions. The tour will take in beautiful scenery, the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert.

The tour starts with a guided tour of Marrakech, including visits to the iconic Djemma El Fna square, Saadien Tombs, Bahia Palace and exterior or the Koutoubia Mosque. Your evenings here are free to revisit the central square which really comes to life after sun down. On leaving Marrakech we’ll join our 4WD and begin our journey towards the Sahara Desert. We’ll travel through the Atlas Mountains and over the highest mountain pass in Africa. We’ll also visit the famous UNESCO world heritage site of Ait Benhaddou which has featured in many famous movies. After passing through many berber villages and Kasbahs we’ll read the desert at Merzouga where we’ll spend the night in a berber camp, set amongst the spectacular Erg Chebbi sand dunes. Following a unique evening we’ll rise early to witness the beautiful sunrise from the top of nearby sand dunes. We’ll spend one night in the nearby town of Zagora on the edge of the desert before returning to Marrakech for a final evening.

Upon arrival our staff will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel in central Marrakech for the start of your trip. They’ll help you settle in and introduce you to the local area. If you arrive early enough, you can head into Marrakech’s famous Djemaa el Fna Square for a first taste of Moroccan food at one of the main street stalls, while watching the many street performers and salesmen offering their wares.

Today’s tour of Marrakech includes the Menara gardens, and a trip to the iconic Koutoubia Mosque, home to the minaret which has become a symbol of the city. We also visit the Saadian Tombs and the Bahia Palace which hosts intricate and beautiful Arabic craftsmanship. In the afternoon we head to the lively souks and handicraft centres around the famous Djemaa El Fna square. Home to many different types of traders these bustling and aromatic streets are uniquely Moroccan.

After breakfast this morning we take to our 4WD vehicles and bid farewell to Marrakech for a few days. Our destination today is Ouarzazate which we’ll reach via the scenic mountains of the high Atlas, passing through the Tich’n’Tichka pass at an altitude of 2260m. Along the way we’ll make various stops, the first being at the Kasbah of Telouet, which is the former residence of the Glaoui family – one of the most influential in the entire region. After a break to purchase lunch we’ll head to what is probably the most well-known kasbahs in Morocco – Ait Benhaddou. The kasbah is a UNESCO protected monument and has appeared in countless movies. We’ll make a final short stop at the Kasbah of Taourirt before reaching our accommodation in Ouarzazate, or ‘place of no noise’. An incredibly dramatic landscape, this area has played host to countless well known films.. This evening you’ll have dinner at the hotel.

After breakfast in Ouarzazate we’ll travel along the road of a thousand Kasbahs towards the Moroccan deserts. Along the way we’ll pass by the Kasbah of Amerhidel and visit the spectacular Dades Canyon before arriving in Tinghir, which is famous for the Todra Gorge whose rocks tower above visitors at around 250 meters. Time permitting, we may have the opportunity to arrange an optional hike in the Gorge (payable locally).
Later this afternoon we’ll pass through Erfoud before finally arriving into Merzouga where you’ll spend the night in a Berber desert camp, at the foot of some of North Africas most impressive sand dunes.

We’ll rise early this morning to witness the amazing sunrise over the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. After returning to the camp for breakfast we’ll start our departure to Zagora, via the important village of Rissani which is famous for being the birthplace of the current Alaouites Dynasty. Continuing on our way we’ll make a stop in the small berber village of Alnif where we will have time to get some lunch. The final leg of our journey today takes us to Zagora where we’ll spend the night.

After breakfast today we’ll join the road for the long drive back to Marrakech, passing through numerous villages and palm groves before making another crossing of the Atlas Mountains and the Tizi N’tichka col. We’ll arrive back into Marrakech late this afternoon where you’ll have the evening free for some last minute shopping and a final taste of Moroccan life in the square.

Our exciting week in Morocco comes to an end today. You’ll have free time until you are transferred to the airport for your departure flight. Subject to your flight departure time, additional options such as spectacular hot air balloon flight, or a fun quad biking trip, are available this morning.
